With a swift peep into the joyous life of Nandi and her friends, transport your child to KwaZulu. The engaging language and rich imagery of Zulu village-life will enthral curious minds and the cleverly set plot will enchant and fascinate young readers and toddlers alike.
Nandi in KwaZulu was born out of my love for diversity and finding so little when I was reading to my own daughters and pupils since some 20 years ago. Things have changed since then and we must continue to enrich our children’s reading experience through rich and varied books.
I dreamt about sharing diversity and I know that we must not tire of bringing books, based on the diversity of our planet, to the little ones.
Being a Montessori-trained teacher, what María Montessori proposed regarding “the absorbent mind” and how we can enrich young minds with amazing stories, based on our real world, stuck with me. Thus we have Nandi in Kwazulu, fiction based in my motherland!!!
The book is beautifully illustrated by an amazing Barcelona-based artist, Joel Calvó, who worked patiently with me to put onto paper what I had in my mind! The result has been very satisfying for me and we hope it will be for you, too!
Carmen Fandos, my publisher and the CEO of Fox Ediciones, is an inspiration for me and from moment one believed in me and encouraged me for Nandi in KwaZulu to become a reality and shared widely.
I was born and raised in the “rainbow nation”, as South Africa is affectionately called and quite early on began travelling the world. I’ve always been amazed by the diversity and beauty of our enchanting world and my own personal experience as a mother and early years educator has led me to believe very firmly that we should intrigue and excite little ones with stories about this REAL and amazing planet that we call home.
I dream to share this with children widely and to open their eyes and curiosity to this rich, vast and diverse planet, where amazing stories unfold moment by moment in its every corner.
My introductory book, it goes without saying, had to be set in my beloved KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa!!!
Nandi is my fourth baby!
